Sublette County is a Wyoming fly fishing haven and a great place to head if you are looking clean streams and mirror lakes and attempting the Cutt-Slam. In fact, three of the four species of cutthroats can be found within a 50 mile radius within the county. The fishing areas listed below include cutthroat trout and are located in Sublette County, Wyoming.
North Piney Lake
Key species: Cutthroat Trout
Description: 66 acre mountain lake
Directions: Take WY Hwy 350 west from Big Piney for 17 miles, turn right on Forest Service Road 10054 and travel ¼ mile to trail.
Hike 4 miles to the lake. Brook and cutthroat are located in local streams.
Middle Piney Lake
Key Species: Cutthroat Trout, rainbow trout, and mackinaw (lake trout)
Description: 120 acre lake with spectacular 11,000’ peaks
Directions: Take WY Hwy 350 west from Big Piney to the Middle Piney Road 23-110. Follow signs to Middle Piney Lake and campground.
Drive right to the lake. Campground open July 1 thru September 30. Weather permitting.
Stream fishing and camping along Middle Piney Creek.
Upper Green River
Key species: Cutthroat Trout, brown trout, rainbow trout and whitefish
Description: The Green River begins at scenic Green River Lakes at the end of Wyoming Hwy 352. This stream is the headwaters of the Green River which becomes the mighty Colorado River. Beautiful views of snowcapped mountains and famous Square Top Mountain. Easy road access 25 miles from Pinedale, then road turns to dirt/gravel another 25 miles as forest service road to Green River Lakes. US Forest Service campgrounds at Whiskey Grove and Green River Lakes. Dispersed camping allowed except where expressly prohibited with no camping sign.
Cutthroat Trout range from 10 to 12 inches. Rainbows range from 12 to 14 inches.
Warren Bridge Access to Green River
Key species: cutthroat trout, brown trout, rainbow trout and whitefish
Description: On Hwy 191, 9 miles north of Daniel Junction. Turn right on dirt Warren Bridge Public Access Road and choose from 19 parking areas in next 7 miles on the west side of the Green River.
Downstream from Warren Bridge you may float fish from river but you are not allowed to access private land.
Daniel Access to Green River
Key Species: cutthroat trout, brown trout, rainbow trout and whitefish
Description: Camping, toilets, 4 parking areas, boat ramp
Directions: Take US 191 4 miles turn left on Pape Road, follow signs for Daniel Fish Hatchery. Wyoming Game and Fish 6-mile long access area with 4 parking areas. Be aware of property boundaries.
